Vacation Leave 

Employees in Chile are guaranteed 15 days of paid vacation time off. Employees and employers can agree that PTO can be carried over up to two years.

Maternity & Paternity Leave 

Expecting mothers are entitled to six weeks off for maternity leave before birth and 12 weeks after the birth of postnatal leave. Once maternity leave ends, new mothers can receive either their regular salary for up to 12 weeks or 50% for 18 weeks paid through private or public healthcare. New fathers are entitled to five days of paid paternity leave in the month following birth, leave may be extended in cases of adoption. 

Miscellaneous Leave

Other circumstances that allow for paid leave: 

• Two hours to vote

• Employees may take half a working day for prostate exams, mammograms, or pap smears

Sick Leave  

Employees can only take sick leave if they provide medical documentation. Sick pay is through the public and private health care systems. Seven categories of medical leave are covered for sick pay, including: 

• Common illness or accident

• Extension of preventive medicine

• Maternity leave

• Serious illness of a child under one

• Accident or commuting injury

• Occupational disease 

• Pregnancy complications

Bereavement Leave

All employees are entitled to seven consecutive days of paid leave to mourn the death of an immediate family member.
