Employers are required to provide employees with a written statement outlining the terms and conditions of the working relationship within seven days of their start date. The following restrictions apply when conducting background checks:
Employers are prohibited from verifying data that may result in discriminatory treatment such as age, race, gender, religious or political beliefs, union memberships, sexual orientation, medical history, and more
Employers are prohibited from conducting criminal background checks except for employees who work with children or people with developmental disabilities
Employers must obtain consent if they use a third-party service to conduct background checks
